US-based Polycom Opens New R&D Center in Hyderabad, India

Polycom, a US-based UCC (Unified Collaborative Communications) provider recently announced that it will invest approximately US$5 million in its new R&D center in Hyderabad, India, aiming to tap the demand for VoIP (Voice over IP) applications in the region.

The center is projected to focus on the development of technologies and programs to support the company's product portfolio. Polycom's main operations span the range of voice, mobile and WiFi solutions for use in mobile phones, desktop PCs, and conferencing applications. The company's present client base includes 3Com, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Cisco, NEC, and Nortel.

The new center currently has an R&D workforce of 70, which is projected to increase to 160 in the long run.
